The Mekong Delta is partly located in the southernmost of Vietnam which also known as the Southern Delta, the Southwest, or the West according to the Vietnamese people, of which Can Tho is the central city. There are also 12 provinces in the Mekong Delta: Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau. 

The Mekong Delta in Vietnam has an area of 40.6 thousand square kilometers. It is situated adjacent to Southeast Vietnam, and it has the North bordering Cambodia, the Southwest as the Gulf of Thailand, and the Southeast as the East Sea.

Compounded by the fertile alluvium of the Mekong River with two main tributaries of Tien River (Front River) and Hau River (Behind River), the intricate canal system, green forests, the sea, and islands, the Mekong Delta has been formed with a diverse ecosystem, creating a beautiful and attractive landscape.

Best time to visit Mekong Delta

The climate in the Mekong Delta is hot all year round with a lot of rain. The annual average temperature is 24-27 degrees Celsius, with a temperature range of 2-3 degrees Celsius/year. The temperature between day and night is low.

The weather is split into two distinct seasons: the rainy season lasts from May to October and the dry season lasts from December to April next year.

Thanks to the pleasant climate, tourists can visit Mekong Delta at any time of the year. 

In the summer (June, July, and August) is the ripe fruit season in the Mekong Delta, so if you like to explore the lush fruit gardens, you should go at this time.

In the flood season

The flood season in the southwest usually takes place from September to November. In this season, the water will rise to overflow into Dong Thap Muoi lowland (including Long An and Tien Giang, Dong Thap) and An Giang.
